It\u2019s also a side effect of a lifetime of being in my profession as an academic, moreover married to an academic, and fed by the need to dig further than what\u2019s quickly glossed over by the news outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not to mention an inborn and built-in distrust of things \u201cthey say.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I want to get to the source. I want the bare facts. I want the primary, raw information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That got to be a problem when I became enthralled with weaving in the middle of <em>The Pandemic<\/em>. Because what\u2019s more primary than an in-person demonstration when it comes to researching any kind of craft?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But fortunately <em>The Pandemic<\/em> happened in the time of technology and social media, and <em>YouTube<\/em> was there to supplement the lack of live mentors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I\u2019ll admit, it also mitigated the jitters of the introvert at the thought of putting myself out there and actually speaking to a live person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I discovered quite a few follow-worthy weaving channels on <em>YouTube<\/em>. And many skilled artisans who shared generously their knowledge. And fed my hunger for weaving\u2026 things. Because I wasn\u2019t sure at first what to focus on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/kellycasanovaweavinglessons.com\/hi-im-kelly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/kellycasanovaweavinglessons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/grey-shawl-6-300x286.jpg?resize=200%2C191&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"191\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The one YouTube channel and website I still go back to for basic reviews and next-step lessons, for rigid-heddle patterns and lessons, and even for casual commentary on weaving and life, is Kelly Casanova\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCSyQw0Q5N6tMm_4YjvyhklQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">channel<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/kellycasanovaweavinglessons.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelly has the ability to present the most basic principles of weaving in a smooth and captivating manner that makes the simplest steps significant and momentous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, if you\u2019re a beginner, Kelly makes your first steps meaningful, so much so that you will return to her basic tutorials for a refresher and to be confirmed in your progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or just to watch a master weaver at work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelly has online weaving classes and weaving patterns for sale, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the most delightful New Zealand accent you could imagine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh, and lately, she\u2019s been working on inkle weaving lessons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/c\/KellyCasanova\/featured\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kelly Casanova on YouTube<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kellycasanovaweavinglessons.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kelly Casanova&#8217;s website<\/a> (with blog and more information than you&#8217;ll know what to do with)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kelly-casanova-weaving-lessons.teachable.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kelly Casanova&#8217;s weaving school<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>NOTE: I have no affiliation whatsoever with Kelly Casanova.
